5 Steps to ensure you have a productive and joyful week
Apr 01, 2020How do you set the week up for success?
Now more than ever, our mindset matters.
How we show up daily has an impact on ourselves and those we love and care about.
I am taking an inside out approach and thinking about what kind of person I am becoming and what I can influence.
I remind myself daily that I can always choose how I respond to situations.
Here are my five steps to set you up for a great week ahead so you can ensure you are productive, focused and remain calm.
1. Reflect on the previous week.
Reflection is a powerful activity that I do at the end of each week. I sit down with my journal and think back through the week just gone.
I ask myself some key questions such as;
On a scale of 1-10, how was my mindset last week?
- What is working and why?
- What's not working and why?
- What do I need to stop doing and start doing?
- What bad habits do I need to break?
- What new habit do I need to make?
- What am I most proud of?
- What am I most grateful for?
As you can imagine asking myself these questions at the end of each week builds my self-awareness and gives me time to reflect on where I am spending my time, and what kind of impact that is having on my life.
Reflection is such a great way to get to know yourself better and keep focusing on what is important.
They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result. Well, if you don't know what's not working, then how can you change it?
Grab your journal now or anything you can and ask yourself these questions to ensure you are ready for a new week.
2. Focus on projects or goals that will move you forward this week.
Do you have a big life or business goal that you are working towards?
If you said yes amazing, DO NOT lose sight of that right now.
I have all my goals up on my vision board at home so that I can look at them throughout the day.
I then ask myself.
What projects do I need to complete this week to ensure I am moving closer to these longer-term goals?
I write down four projects that need to get done for example;
- Write the first chapter of my book.
- Record 2 podcast episodes.
- Keep up my morning routine.
- Ensure that our team is set up for success.
If you don't have any goals, you are working towards, perhaps now is the best time to sit down and ask yourself what you want and why?
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
The more time you spend getting to know yourself, the quicker your vision, passion and purpose will become clear.
This is why building self-awareness is so crucial for an abundant and fulfilled life.
3. What key actions do you need to take to ensure these goals get done.
Now that you have your four projects its time to act.
Let's use my example;
Project 1 - Write the first chapter of my book
Action- Block out 2 hours each morning to write.
Project 2 - Record 2 podcasts
Action- Lock in three hours on Monday afternoon to record.
Come up with ten new ideas for content.
Project 3 - Keep up my morning routine
Action – Set alarm for 5 am.
Have journal ready to write in after 15mintes of mediation
Have gym clothes prepared at the bottom of the bed.
Plan workout night before and have equipment ready.
Ensure I have fresh fruit for mornings breakfast.
Project 4 - Ensure team are set up for success.
Action - Zoom call at 730 Monday morning.
Come with good energy and intention ready to listen and motivate the team.
Keep in touch with the team via WhatsApp and zoom, throughout the week to ensure they feel supported.
As you can see breaking down the project this way makes it really simple and helps me think about what the key actions are to ensure I take the steps each day to move me closer towards my goals.
4. Schedule
Time not scheduled will quickly be filled with distractions. Now is not the time to be multitasking or losing focus.
Now is the time to step up and double down! 9-5 does not exist and how we spend our time matters now more than ever, so be sure this week to schedule EVERYTHING!!!
I mean everything.
This is the secret sauce to my success and what enables me to be so productive while looking after my health, and keeping my relationships strong.
Think about your critical projects.
For those times that you need to be more creative, ensure you schedule in these hours when you are at your best.
For me, it is the morning, as I feel more energized.
So take your planner out now and schedule in the times when you are going to do your key projects and actions this week.
Any spare space can be filled with exercise, spending time with your loved ones, catching up on housework etc. Write it all in there.
If you plan your week this way, you really will set yourself up for great success.
5. Set intentions.
Last but by no means least, think about how you want to show up this week.
What kind of person do you want to be?
What three words do you want your team or loved ones to describe you as;
For example
- Energetic
- Kind
- Focused
Every time I jump on a call or interact with my husband, I am always ensuring I set intentions for how I want to act when I am with those I care about.
If I catch myself not living by my words, I quickly take a breath, acknowledge how I am feeling, remove myself if needed and then think about my three words and why this is so important for me to be showing up as my best self.
I hope these ideas help set you up for the best week yet.
In these uncertain times now more than ever having a good plan in place is so important to ensure you are still maximising your days which will lead to better weeks, months, quarters and years.
Do not waste this opportunity to learn and grow daily.
Have a successful week!
